Samuel J. Sills, M.D.

The Samuel J. Sills Distinguishing Scholar Program honorarium was established in 1971 by Dr. Sills’ children, Robert Sills and Susan Casamassima, as a tribute to their fathers’ years of dedication and love for education, health care, and research in the field of pulmonary medicine. The Trudeau Society is a network of leading Los Angeles lung health professionals who engage in special lectures and grand rounds led by nationally recognized experts. The culminating annual meeting, held each spring, is the Samuel J. Sills, M.D. Dinner and Lecture that serve to educate the local medical community on COPD and other respiratory illnesses.

An Awards Committee is appointed annually by the BREATHE LA Board from among the California Medical Specialists in Lung Disease. The Samuel J. Sills Distinguished Scholar Award recognizes a deserving honoree, elected from outstanding individuals in the field of pulmonary medicine. In addition to receiving the award, the honoree is given the title of Visiting Professor and lectures at local medical facilities on the progress of pulmonary treatment and research.

Each year, a deserving honoree is selected from outstanding individuals in the field of pulmonary medicine to receive the award, including title of visiting professor. The honored guest visits local medical facilities and lecture on the progress of pulmonary treatment and research.

The Trudeau Society meets annually for the Samuel J. Sills MD Visiting Scholar Lecture. Trudeau Society, in coordination with BREATHE LA is Los Angeles leading regional lung health network, annually hosting professional symposium and grand rounds for experts in respiratory care.

Samuel J. Sills, M.D. Scholar’s Fund was established to encourage research and education programs in the field of lung disease, and to bring the finest scholars in the field to share their expertise with the medical community of Los Angeles County.
